Introducing: The Saturday Stretch
I want to take time each week to reflect on life and what I’m spending my time and energy on. I also want to update my blog more often than just monthly. So at least until the end of internship I’m going to take a “Saturday Stretch” and write a little update. Consider it an experiment. This is the first one…
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Prov 15.1 (NIV)
The Week Behind
Week two of internship sans supervisor. Last Sunday I taught the first session of a short course on “How Lutherans Read the Bible.” Tuesday, we had a final gathering of the community clergy group at the Candlelight restaurant in Rock Falls, and I bade farewell to some good friends. Jennifer’s 24-week appointment for NewBaby went fine. We shoveled the Meyers into their moving truck on Wednesday. Friday brought lunch and theological conversation over Mexican food with Pr. Phil. This afternoon the church’s intern committee threw a big party and invited everyone out to Oppold Marina – including the Meyers!
Input
If you like webcomics and zombies, you should subscribe to Dead Winter.
I’m reading On Writing by Steven King and The Sacred Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions, Vol 2 of the Selected Writings of Arthur Carl Piepkorn, Philip J. Secker, ed.
Output
Working with Andrew to put some finishing touches on the new church website for St. John’s.
Elizabeth from The Lutheran contacted me on Twitter about my my study on ELCA church websites, so I’m working on finishing that up (finally!)
The Week Ahead
I’ll be officiating at another funeral Monday. Mr. Goss was 68 years old – nowadays, that’s pretty young, so that’s sad. We’ve got VBS starting Sunday night, which will be energetic and fun, but it’ll be a full week with the Northern Illinois Synod Assembly starting Friday.

On Writing is a really good book!
