An arrangement of “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” written and performed by Intern Pr. Chuck Meyer and myself at the Twin Cities Community Clergy Association Palm Sunday Music Event held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, IL.

The ending recalls “Were You There? (when they crucified my Lord),” reminding us that the same ones who shouted “Hosanna!” on Palm Sunday were the ones who shouted “Crucify him!” on Good Friday.

In the Spring semester of 2009, I was invited by Thomas Schattauer, Dean of Loehe Chapel at Wartburg Theological Seminary, to work on a setting of matins (i.e. morning prayer) for the season of Easter. The result is Morning Light.

Morning Light is intended to be simple, singable, and catchy. The music is written in 6/8 time to encourage the assembly to move as they sing.

About the Composer

I am a student of Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA and a candidate for ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I am currently in my third year of study, undertaking a year-long internship at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling, Illinois, USA.

Building Your Own Morning Light

Morning Light was developed using the LilyPond music typesetting system and is “compiled” using Freedom Software tools. To build a customized copy of Morning Light, you will need:

• A computer running Linux. It may be possible to get this working under OS X or Windows, though.
• LilyPond v2.12 or greater
• Apache Ant
• Imagemagick
• LaTeX with certain standard TeX packages, like geometry and hyperref
• LaTeXmk
• pngcrush (optional)

A complete list of compilation targets is available by typing “ant” at the command line. To build the entire distribution, use this command: ant fullclean all pngcrush
