Uppercase or lowercase baptism?
Well, today is the last day for this year’s seniors to work on their ELCA Approval Essays, because they’re due tomorrow. Since the Gospel text for this year is Matthew 3.13-17 (Baptism of Our Lord, Year A), I’ve found myself writing the word baptism a LOT. So, should it be capitalized?
If you’re looking for the official ELCA directions on this, look no further than the ELCA Style Guide. Rather than make you flip through 52 pages of it, though, here’s the one minute version, taken straight from the Style Guide:
Gratitude and Solitude

I’ve been at the Northern Illinois Synod Assembly this weekend, and Jennifer and Anneliese have been at home. When you’re an intern pastor, a husband, and a father, there is precious little time that you’re actually alone.
Truth be told, I don’t like to be alone.
Tour de Revs
Imagine this – three pastors on one bicycle (made of bamboo, of all things) riding 13,000 miles in 100 days to visit all 65 cities that have an ELCA synod office in order to raise awareness of world hunger. This is the “Tour de Revs.” They have a website you can follow them on: www.TourDeRevs.org. There’s tons of great information there, and it supports a good cause, ELCA World Hunger. Check it out!
